Welcome to Tom Hatcher's Writings Website

These are mostly my creations, computer programs, stories, and videos from the past and present. I hope to upload much of this website to the BSV blockchain. This is under construction, so please be patient.

Here's what I have so far.

Capital Gains Calculator. I wrote this program when I was learning JavaScript. It works pretty good for keeping track of your capital gains when you buy or sell using cryptos. For each transaction you do, just enter the amount of cryptocurrency you received or sent and the amount of dollars (or other fiat) you spent or received from the transaction. The program will display your current capital gains so far and the basis for the cryptos you still possess.

Chinese Character Drill. Here's a drill program which you can make into an educational game to learn to read Chinese characters for a number of English words (at this time 650). The Chinese language has two main dialects, Mandarin and Cantonese. But both groups use the same characters. They just pronounce the characters differently. If a Cantonese speaker reads a speech, a Mandarin speaker won't understand what's being said. And vice versa. But if the Cantonese speaker writes the speech, a Mandarin speakercan read it. If you can read Chinese, you will understand what is written in either dialect. Playing Directions

Video of recent venture. Some mountainous land in far northern California that's for sale. It backs up to the Jedediah Smith wilderness area. This is the flat spot of the land that's for sale. Most of the land is forested mountain. To get to this spot, Lilly and I parked her car in what looked like an old quary and walked up a two track rock strewn path. We came to an abandoned pot farm. Whoever had been there was gone. They had left an old bus, but they took the greenhouse covering and soil from the wooden planter boxes they left. Higher up, we came upon a flat, bulldozed area about 400 feet long by 200 feet wide. I figured someone was planning to build a mansion there. What a view they would have! The movie, Last of the Mohicans, was actually filmed near this mountain we had climbed. We saw for ourselves what those forest-covered mountains fading away in the distance look like. In the video, Lilly walks towards the camera with her shoes falling apart.
